QB Ryan Montgomery, Findlay■ Class: Junior■ Size: 6-foot-4, 215 pounds.■ Scouting report: Montgomery was named first-team All-Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division and was the NLL Buckeye offensive player of the year. He was first-team D-I all-district as well as district offensive player of the year, and is the Northwest district’s candidate for the Ohio 2023 Mr. Football Award. He was 258 of 376 passing with 3,377 yards and 38 TD passes this season along with 257 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs. In his career, Montgomery has thrown for 7,584 yards and 89 passing TDs. He is being recruited heavily with interest in Michigan, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, and Penn State.■ Coach says: “In Year 3 as the starting QB Ryan showed complete command of the offense and those around him. ■ Size: 6-foot-0, 205 pounds
■ Scouting report: Braswell was first-team All-Catholic High School League and Division III co-offensive player of the year. He rushed 207 times for 1,476 yards and 28 touchdowns and has earned multiple Division II college offers.
■ Coach says: “Marquan is a great combination of size, speed, athleticism, and balance. He is a big back that can wear on a defense and gets many yards after contact. He has worked very hard in preparing for this season and has done an outstanding job in every way possible.” — Greg Dempsey.
RB Isaac Sexton, Southview■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 5-foot-10, 190 pounds
■ Scouting report: Sexton had a highly productive senior season for the Cougars with 261 carries for 1,617 yards and 24 rushing touchdowns. He added 14 catches for 86 yards. Sexton was named first-team All-NLL Cardinal Division, first-team D-II all-district, and district co-offensive player of the year. He recently received a preferred walk-on offer from the University of Toledo.
■ Coach says: “Isaac has been the foundation for our team the last three seasons and a huge part of improving from 1-8 as a freshman to 8-4 his senior year. As a running back he is a combination of skill, speed, strength, power and most importantly durability; starting 35 games at running back and having 643 carries. Sexton loves contact and getting into the end zone and is Southview’s all-time leading rusher. He is coachable and with a 3.6 GPA will make whatever college program he ends up at better as well as being the standard for all future Cougar running backs to look up to.” — Steve Hardy
RB Braxton Althauser, McComb■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 5-foot-9, 155 pounds
■ Scouting report: Althauser combined for 48 total touchdowns this season — 36 rushing, seven receiving, two kickoff returns, and three interception returns. He rushed 263 times for 2,681 rushing yards on the season with 14 catches for 398 receiving yards. He was named first-team All-Blanchard Valley Conference, BVC co-offensive player of the year, and was first-team all-district in Division VII and district co-offensive player of the year.
■ Coach says: “Braxton is blessed with athletic ability, speed, and quickness. He is also a 22-foot long jumper. He sees the field well and has good acceleration. Braxton credits his offensive line and teammates for his success on the field.” — Kris Alge.
WR Jaylen Watson, Central Catholic■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-0, 180 pounds
■ Scouting report: Watson, a University of Iowa commit, turned in a dynamic season with 56 catches for 980 yards and seven TD receptions. He also had 10 rushes for 69 yards and three scores. He was named first-team All-CHSL and first-team all-district in D-III.
■ Coach says: “Jaylen is an extremely explosive wide receiver. He possesses great speed, acceleration, and change of direction skills. He is able to turn a very short pass into a touchdown and beat the defense over the top. He has an extremely high football IQ and is an impact player in all three phases of the game.” — Greg Dempsey
WR Javonte Hill, Findlay■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-3, 165 pounds
■ Scouting report: Hill was the top target for Montgomery and produced in a big way. He caught 90 passes for 1,257 yards and 18 receiving touchdowns on his way to first-team All-NLL Buckeye Division and first-team all-district. Hill has gained recruiting interest from Tiffin and Siena Heights.
■ Coach says: “Javonte was the most dominant WR around and one of the best in the state. He is tall, rangy, long, and extremely physical for his size. Javonte truly believes he should make every catch, and he can turn every catch to a touchdown. Not many more athletes are as gifted as Javonte.” — Stefan Adams
WR Jaqui Hayward, Oak Harbor■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 5-foot-10, 170 pounds
■ Scouting report: Hayward did a bit of everything for Oak Harbor on the way to first-team All-Northern Buckeye Conference, NBC back of the year, first-team D-V northwest Ohio all-district and district co-offensive player of the year honors. He caught 78 passes for 983 yards and 11 receiving touchdowns and rushed 66 times for 659 yards and 11 rushing touchdowns. He also added two punt return TDs.
■ Coach says: “Jaqui is a dynamic athlete that lined up at wide receiver, tailback, and quarterback this season. He is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Jaqui set numerous offensive records during his career.” — Mike May
OL Marc Nave, Central Catholic■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-4, 310 pounds
■ Scouting report: Nave, a recent University of Kentucky commit, was first-team D-III all-district and district lineman of the year, as well as first-team All-CHSL. Nave is a three-year starter for the Irish and a key to the success of their offense as the left tackle. He graded out at 95 percent this season.
■ Coach says: “Marc is a big and extremely athletic offensive lineman. He is a great technician that has the athleticism to protect the QB’s blindside in pass protection and is a punishing run blocker that can change the line of scrimmage.” — Greg Dempsey
OL Carter Lowe, Whitmer■ Class: Junior
■ Size: 6-foot-6, 310 pounds
■ Scouting report: Lowe had a dominant junior season for the Panthers earning first-team All-NLL Buckeye and first-team D-I all-district. He was named district lineman of the year. Lowe is a highly sought-after recruit who is considering Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, Tennessee, and Penn State. Lowe graded out at 89 percent and did not allow a quarterback sack all season.
■ Coach says: “Carter made huge strides between his sophomore and junior year. As he understands the game more, his size and talent are starting to take over games. I know he will not let the hype get in the way of his offseason preparation and he will show everyone he is one of the best linemen in the nation.” — Ken Winters
OL Dillon Robinson, Anthony Wayne■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-3, 270 pounds
■ Scouting report: Robinson was first-team All-NLL Buckeye and first-team D-II all-district. An agile and quick offensive tackle, Robinson is effective in the run and pass game. He is committed to play at Bowling Green. Robinson graded out at 95 percent with 37 pancakes on the season.
■ Coach says: “Dillon has a very physical presence on the offensive line. He plays with tenacity and the intent of driving people off the line of scrimmage. He put in an incredible offseason to prepare himself to be one of the biggest and best. Dillon had a great first step in blocking and a strong punch in the run game.” — Andy Brungard
OL Elijah Williams, Central Catholic■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-2, 280 pounds
■ Scouting report: Williams was first-team All-CHSL and first-team D-III all-district. A two-year starter on the offensive line for the Irish, Williams is committed to Kent State University. He graded out at 94 percent this season.
■ Coach says: “Elijah is a force up front for us. He is great at securing the middle in pass protection and is a punishing run blocker. He is a violent blocker who is great at the point of attack and pulling in our gap scheme.” — Greg Dempsey
OL Landon Bockelman, Liberty Center■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-3, 265 pounds
■ Scouting report: Bockelman was first-team All-NWOAL and NWOAL defensive player of the year. He was first-team D-V all-district and district lineman of the year. His college plans are undecided although he has received some interest from Bowling Green and Grand Valley State University. Bockelman graded out at 95 percent this season as a blocker. Defensively, Bockelman had 49 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and eight sacks. He intercepted his first pass of the season in the team’s regional final win over Coldwater and returned it for a touchdown.
■ Coach says: “Landon is dominant on both sides of the ball. He has incredible strength and is extremely agile for his size. He has faced double and triple teams all year on defense and is still able to make plays and control a game. We run behind him on offense any time we need a yard.” — Casey Mohler
DL Cadence Carswell, Anthony Wayne■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 5-foot-11, 240 pounds
■ Scouting report: Carswell was first-team All-Northern Lakes League Buckeye Division and first-team D-II all-district. He recorded 61 total tackles this season and 10 tackles for loss. He also recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass.
■ Coach says: “Cadence has been a three-year starter at defensive tackle and every year created explosive plays. He has a knack for finding the ball, creating turnovers, and making big plays. His presence was always felt by the opposing team, not just by his play but the energy that he brought for our team. Cadence is one of the strongest, most physical players to ever play for Anthony Wayne.” — Andy Brungard
DL Michael Cannings, Central Catholic■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-2, 280 pounds
■ Scouting report: Cannings was first-team All-Catholic High School League, first-team D-III all-district, and D-III district co-defensive player of the year. He racked up 50 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and six sacks. He also added a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. He is getting attention from several Division II schools in recruiting with multiple offers.
■ Coach says: “Michael is a rare four-year varsity player in our program. He has been one of the most dominant and disruptive defensive linemen in the area over that time. He is a force vs. the run at the point of attack and chasing down plays from the backside. He also is able to disrupt the pocket and quarterback rhythm vs. the pass putting pressure on the QB. He has been a force on our defense his entire career.” — Greg Dempsey.
DL Jacob Ridener, Oak Harbor■ Class: Junior
■ Size: 6-foot-0, 210 pounds
■ Scouting report: Ridener was first-team All-Northern Buckeye Conference and NBC lineman of the year. He was first-team D-V all-district at defensive lineman and was named district co-defensive player of the year. He made 94 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and recorded 16 sacks. He also forced a fumble, recovered a fumble, and intercepted a pass.
■ Coach says: “Jacob is a very tough and smart football player. He never takes a play off on Friday night and treats every practice rep as a game rep. Jacob is already the all-time sack leader at Oak Harbor as a junior.” — Mike May
LB Joseph Seney, Perrysburg■ Class: Junior
■ Size: 5-foot-11, 195 pounds
■ Scouting report: Seney was first-team All-NLL Buckeye Division, first-team D-I all-district, and was named district co-defensive player of the year. He made 148 total tackles on the season with 19 tackles for loss and 7½ sacks. He also forced three fumbles and recovered three fumbles. He is currently garnering interest from Division II schools.
■ Coach says: “Joe was voted a captain by his teammates as a junior because of his leadership ability. Joe leads every day by example and is also the vocal leader of our defense in addition to letting his play do the talking for him. Joe plays extremely physical football, is patient and disciplined in making his reads, and explodes to the football. Joe is a team-first player and us winning is the most important thing to him.” — Dirk Conner
LB Davonte’ Wright-Ward, Central Catholic■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-1, 220 pounds
■ Scouting report: Wright-Ward was first-team All-CHSL and first-team D-III all-district. He recorded 68 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, and four sacks. He added a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and a pass break-up. Wright-Ward is getting interest from several Division II and III schools on the recruiting trail.
■ Coach says: “Davonte’ is a great high school football player. In 2022, he was our starting left tackle on our state championship team and this year became our starting outside linebacker. He possesses great speed and athleticism. He is able to play in the box vs. the run and pressure the QB. He is also able to drop into coverage.” — Greg Dempsey
LB Napoleon Jemison, Whitmer■ Class: Junior
■ Size: 6-foot-3, 210 pounds
■ Scouting report: Jemison was named first-team All-NLL Buckeye, first-team D-I all-district, and was the NLL Buckeye and district defensive player of the year. He racked up 78 total tackles with 17 tackles for loss and seven sacks. He also contributed two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Jemison is looking at West Virginia, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Kentucky, and Central Michigan as college options.
■ Coach says: “Napoleon is a very special player who can line up at various positions. His explosiveness and knowledge of the game always put him around the ball. What was most impressive about Napoleon this year was the way he matured as a person. His growth off the football field was his greatest accomplishment this year.” — Ken Winters
LB Jasen Kelly, Whitmer■ Class: Senior
■Size: 6-foot-1, 210 pounds
■ Scouting report: Kelly, who is committed to play at Ohio University, turned in another impressive season on the way to first-team All-NLL Buckeye and first-team D-I all-district honors. He totaled 126 tackles, including 21 tackles for loss and three sacks. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
■ Coach says: “Throughout his three years playing varsity football, Jasen established himself as one of the best linebackers to ever play at Whitmer. There have been some great ones, but he is definitely in the conversation. He has been the heart and soul of our defense for the last two years. His leadership on and off the field will be hard to replace.” — Ken Winters
DB Marvon Greenlee, Central Catholic■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 5-foot-9, 160 pounds
■ Scouting report: Greenlee was first-team All-CHSL and first-team D-III all-district. Greenlee was a versatile defender for the Irish, recording 53 tackles, eight tackles for loss, one sack, and six pass break-ups. He intercepted three passes and forced two fumbles. He was also effective in the return game on kickoffs and punts for Central Catholic.
■ Coach says: “Marvon is an electrifying football player. He possesses the cover skills to be a shutdown corner and is one of our team’s leading tacklers. He is an electric return man on punts and kickoffs. He can flip the field for our offense. He is one of the most underrated players in northwest Ohio.” — Greg Dempsey
DB Daryl Barnett, Jr., Scott■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-2, 189 pounds.
■ Scouting report: Barnett is a talented athlete who did a little bit of everything for Scott this season. He was first-team All-City League at wide receiver and defensive back and was named City League player of the year. He was first-team D-III all-district at receiver. Defensively, Barnett made 85 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and recorded five interceptions. He had three fumble recoveries, broke up 22 passes, and totaled four defensive touchdowns. Offensively, Barnett caught 41 passes for 742 yards and six receiving touchdowns. He rushed 76 times for 806 yards and 11 rushing TDs and was 30 of 42 passing for 387 yards and three passing TDs.
■ Coach says: “Daryl is a big athlete who is always willing to do what’s needed to win. He is fast and has natural football instincts. He is one special talent.” — Rahsan Wilson
DB Carter Schaller, Anthony Wayne■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 5-foot-10, 170 pounds
■ Scouting report: Schaller was a game-changer on defense for Anthony Wayne. He was first-team All-NLL Buckeye and first-team D-II all-district. He was also named district defensive player of the year after recording four interceptions (two returned for touchdowns) and 21 pass break-ups. He added 80 tackles.
■ Coach says: “Carter was our staple on defense. When we needed a play, he made it. He created turnovers, including a school-record 100-yard interception against St. John’s Jesuit. He always challenged the other team’s best receiver, played with swagger, and had great anticipation.” — Andy Brungard
DB Luke Weihrauch, Findlay■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 6-foot-1, 180 pounds
■ Scouting report: Weihrauch was first-team All-NLL Buckeye and first-team D-I all-district this season after recording 104 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, and five sacks. He also intercepted three passes, forced three fumbles, had eight pass break-ups, and added a defensive touchdown.
■ Coach says: “Captain Luke is as fierce of a competitor as they come. He plays with a lot of passion and loves the game of football. Luke was as dominant and disruptive as a defender can be. He had a monster year and constantly flashed in every single game we played this year. He’s one of the best in the area and in the state.” — Stefan Adams
K/P Tyson Rodriguez, Wauseon■ Class: Senior
■ Size: 5-foot-11, 190 pounds
■ Scouting report: Rodriguez was the 2023 Northwest Ohio Athletic League offensive player of the year and was first-team D-IV all-district. Rodriguez was 31 of 32 on extra points and 6 of 7 on field goals with a long of 35 yards. He had a 55.8-yard average on kickoffs with 10 touchbacks. He added 37 punts for a 36.0 average with a long of 52 yards. Defensively, Rodriguez recorded 98 tackles, 25 pass break-ups, and three interceptions from his safety position. Then offensively, Rodriguez caught 52 passes for 979 yards and 17 receiving TDs. Altogether, he scored 157 points for the Indians.
■ Coach says: “Tyson is an extremely versatile player and excelled on the field in all three phases of the game as a wide receiver, strong safety, and specialist. His abilities as a kicker in his four years of varsity football were a huge weapon for us.” — Shawn Moore
