Block Communications Inc. has promoted Keith Wilkowski, a longtime Toledo attorney and former Lucas County commissioner, to be the company’s new director of legal and governmental affairs.
Mr. Wilkowski, 60, had spent the last two years as the vice president of business and legal affairs at Buckeye Broadband, a subsidiary of Block Communications. Block Communications also owns The Blade, Buckeye Telesystem, and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. It also owns television stations in Lima, Ohio, Louisville, Boise, and Decatur, Ill.; MaxxSouth Broadband in Mississippi/Alabama, and Line System Inc., a commercial telephone and data company located in West Chester, Pa.
In his new role Mr. Wilkowski will be responsible for working on legal issues and with government regulations, which touch many of BCI’s business units.
Though his new job has a broader reach, Mr. Wilkowski has been working on legal matters for Block Communications and its various subsidiaries for a number of years, starting in 2006 when he was still in private practice. Before joining Buckeye Broadband, he was a partner at Marshall & Melhorn and also worked at Vassar, Dills, Dawson & Bonfiglio. He received his law degree from the University of Toledo.
Mr. Wilkowski also has enjoyed a robust career in the public sector, serving four years as the city of Toledo’s law director, eight years as the city of Rossford’s law director, and served two years as a Lucas County commissioner.
He said he’s excited for his new job, which takes effect Monday.
“I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to serve the company from this position,” he said.
Block Communications on Thursday also announced that Rick Mlcek has been named the company’s director of shared serviced, supporting cable/broadband and CLEC/broadband.
Mr. Mlcek, who has been with the company for 17 years, was previously vice president of operations and treasurer for Buckeye Broadband.
