General Motors Co. said this week that its Toledo Transmission Plant has made its 2 millionth rear-wheel-drive, six-speed transmission.
Those transmissions go into vehicles including the Chevrolet Corvette and Camaro and the GMC Sierra HD. The plant also makes six-speed transmissions for front-wheel-drive vehicles. GM said the plant built its millionth unit of that variant in August.
In 2011, GM committed $322 million toward addition of a fuel-efficient, eight-speed transmission. GM says the plant has about 1,900 employees.
