The KeyBank Foundation announced today that it will invest $300,000 in Bitwise Industries Toledo to support its mission of creating economic opportunities for the overlooked and underprivileged in America’s most underestimated cities.
Based in Fresno, Calif., Bitwise Industries is one of the largest tech apprenticeship providers in the nation, which leverages public-private partnerships to provide paid training to students to learn tech skills while being connected to meaningful tech opportunities, according to a statement released from KeyBank.
Bitwise is developing the Toledo Innovation Center in the Jefferson Building in downtown Toledo, which is currently under construction.
When completed, the building will serve as a center of innovation and entrepreneurship with a three-year goal to create 800 jobs in the tech industry and nearly 3,500 ancillary jobs in the surrounding region, the statement said.
Bitwise has raised $100 million to support its work in five cities including Toledo.
The grant is part of KeyBank’s $40 billion National Community Benefits Plan and is symbolic of the bank’s longstanding commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, according to the bank.
