Mya Sanchez, 13, and her brother Jeremyah Belcher, 11, both of Perrysburg, paddled a canoe during "Paddle on the Pond" at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve in Perrysburg Township. The free event is offered by the preserve the first Tuesday of each month starting in June. It was the last offering of the program this season. It was the first time Jeremyah had ridden in a canoe. He liked it enough to take three short rides, despite Mya heading home after the first.

Wood County Park Program Coordinator Debbie Nofzinger, left, instructed Jeremyah Belcher, 11, of Perrysburg, in the correct way to paddle a canoe solo. Nofzinger said that while they usually have around 80 people who turn out for the canoe paddle event, the start of school had greatly depleted the number of participants.
