ABOUT THE TEAM:
Coach: Matt Kregel, eighth year
Last season: 8-3, 6-1 NLL
Returning letter winners: 19
Returning starters: Offense 4, defense 5
Schemes: Spread/4-3
Top players: Seniors Mark Delas, 6-1, 210, RB-LB; Nate Patterson, 6-4, 230, TE. Kadin Llewellyn, 6-1, 210, DE; J.P. Newton, FB-DT. Juniors Gus Dimmerling, 6-0, 180, QB-DB; Cale Bonner, 6-3, 285, OL-DL.
Outlook: The Yellow Jackets lost their starting quarterback and leading rusher, Steve Slocum, to graduation along with their leading receiver (Austin Lee).
But speed remains a huge asset for Perrysburg. Delas, a bruising runner, leads a solid running attack.
Delas rushed for 803 yards on 101 carries (8.0) and scored 18 touchdowns. Dimmerling, who ran for 366 yards on 83 carries (4.4), is the speed back.
Kregel, who has a 50-22 record with the Yellow Jackets, said he has plenty of depth at the skill positions.
Patterson has committed to play at Miami (Ohio). Last season he had 15 receptions for 207 yards. Delas and Patterson each earned All-NLL first-team honors.
Bonner earned all-league second team on offense, while Llewellyn and Newton were named to the second team on defense.
The Yellow Jackets last won an NLL title in 2006. They lost in the opening round of the D-II playoffs last season, falling 28-11 to Avon after going 8-2 in the regular season.
