The Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge will undergo test openings today in preparation for the upcoming shipping season, the city of Toledo announced.
Testing is scheduled between 1 and 3 p.m. There is no set date when ship traffic will resume on the Maumee River, but it could occur within the next few weeks, especially after ice clears on the lower Great Lakes.
The Soo Locks linking lakes Superior and Huron reopened for the season Wednesday, and the St. Lawrence Seaway lock system, including the Welland Canal between lakes Erie and Ontario, is scheduled to reopen April 2.
