A local group opposed to ProMedica's plans to build a six-story parking structure on Summit Street today offered new information for its fight to preserve an unobstructed view of the Maumee River.
Linda Furney, a former state senator who belongs to "Preserve Promenade Park," said architectural plans for the former federal government office center that once stood on Summit shows that the building's basement was 29 feet below ground.
They believe that an underground structure with two levels of parking is viable on the riverfront park as an option to ProMedica's proposal for a five or six-story parking garage in the park at Jefferson Street and Summit.
"The company already plans to tear up Promenade Park to build an underground garage. Why not make it two levels," Ms. Furney said during a news conference today at One Government Center.
The parking garage, which would have one underground level, is part of the regional health system's plans for a new downtown headquarters that would include the former Toledo Edison Water Street Station and the KeyBank building.
