Rain does little to ease northwest Ohio drought

Drought-stricken northwest Ohio got a little relief in the form of rain on Saturday, but not enough to make much of a difference.

The National Weather Service said the Toledo area got 0.09 inches as of 5 p.m. at Toledo Express Airport, not quite its normal rainfall of 0.10 inches for this date.

The Toledo area is down 2.60 inches in rainfall since June 1, according to the weather service.

The U.S. Drought Monitor shows much of northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan in a drought.

Findlay Airport received more than an inch of rain through early evening. At Toledo Executive Airport in Wood County’s Lake Township, the weather service recorded 0.16 inches. Custer Airport in Monroe received 0.23 inches, while Lenawee County Airport in Adrian received 0.65 inches.

Rainfall was scattered, if heavy at times, but sheriff’s deputies across the region reported few problems.

Some Toledo-area roads temporarily had high water, such as northbound I-75 near Phillips Avenue.
