Thousands honor champion boxer Easter

24-year-old claimed IBF lightweight championship last month

Thousands of fans lined the streets of downtown Toledo this afternoon for a parade to honor boxer Robert Easter, Jr.

Mr. Easter, who claimed the IBF lightweight championship last month, was presented with a key to the city from Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson at the end of the parade.

"We're just so proud to call him ours," the mayor said.

At 24, Mr. Easter has been a professional boxer for just four years, and said Sunday that words failed him when he tried to describe the joy of seeing so many fans come out to wish him well.

"When I’m in that ring, I’m fighting for everybody in this city," he said.
