OMAHA - Louie, the Toledo Zoo's 14-year-old African elephant bull, arrived safely at his new home following an approximately 14-hour, 700-mile road trip.

Louie was transferred overnight to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium, arriving at about 9:30 a.m. eastern time, and unloaded into that facility's elephant barn.

He will spend time in quarantine before being slowly introduced to the Omaha herd. Louie was selected by his Species Survival Plan, a program of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, as the best mate for Omaha's five female elephants that were rescued from Swaziland last year.
