Runners are welcome to join a race in honor of the slain Sierah Joughin.
Registration is open for the NWOH Spirit of Sierah Run on Oct. 14th. The 4-mile run takes place Oct. 14th at Ice Industries, 3810 Herr Road in Sylvania.
Proceeds will go toward educating the public on Sierah's law. If passed, it would create a violent offender registry in Ohio for law enforcement to review, said Tara Ice, Ms. Joughin's aunt.
“We're really just trying to make this a family friendly event that people want to come to and celebrate her spirit,” Mrs. Ice said.
Participants can register at runsignup.com/Race/OH/Sylvania/NWOHSpiritofSierahRun. A total of $10,000 in prize money will go to the top five male and female runners.
Ms. Joughin, 20, of Metamora, Ohio, disappeared July 19, 2016, as she rode her bicycle near her home. Authorities found her remains three days later. James Worley, 58, of rural Delta, Ohio, is scheduled for trial Jan. 16 on aggravated murder charges with capital specifications.
