PORT CLINTON — The reopening of the Port Clinton drawbridge has been postponed yet again and will not be in time for the Independence Day holiday, the Ohio Department of Transportation announced Monday.
Rebecca Dangelo, a district spokesman in Bowling Green, said a new schedule may be issued Tuesday.
The bridge that carries State Rt. 163 across the Portage River closed last fall for replacement of its drawspans and was originally scheduled to reopen to motor traffic just before Memorial Day. However, problems with misalignment between new components and the balance of the structure that remains have bedeviled the project.
The bridge outage cuts off residences, marinas, and other businesses northwest of the river from the rest of Port Clinton.
