Lucas County Children Services seeks renewal of operating levy

The Lucas County Citizens Levy Review Committee voted Wednesday to recommend that the Lucas County Commissioners approve a levy renewal request from Lucas County Children Services Board.

The board is seeking to renew its operating levy that generates about $13 million annually.

The levy isn’t scheduled to expire until 2021, and if voters pass the measure in November, the renewal would not begin collecting funds until 2022, according to LCCS officials. By asking for the renewal this year instead of next year, officials are hopeful that the agency can capitalize on the expected higher voter turnout during a presidential election year as opposed to an off-year.

The renewal is a five-year, 1.8-mill operating levy. It costs the owner of a $100,000 home $55.13 a year.
