Tom Troy, a longtime employee of The Blade, has been appointed the newspaper’s Editorial Page Editor, John Robinson Block, publisher and editor-in-chief, announced.
Mr. Troy became the acting editorial page editor in October following the death of Matthew Bieniek, then the editor of the editorial pages.
Mr. Troy retired in April, 2022, as an assistant city editor. Previously, he worked as the associate editor of the Editorial Board from 2018 to 2019. Mr. Troy started at The Blade in 1991, and as a reporter covered politics, local government, courts, and general assignment.
Before working at The Blade, he was a reporter for United Press International in Pennsylvania and Delaware. Mr. Troy also was a reporter for the Delaware State News in Dover, Del., the Evening Journal in Martinsburg, W.Va., and the Daily Banner in Cambridge, Md.
Mr. Troy, a Toledo resident, received a bachelor’s degree from Towson University in Maryland. He and his wife, Anne, have four children.
The Editorial Page Editor is a member of The Blade’s Editorial Board, which writes editorials and prepares opinion columns for publication in the Pages of Opinion. The section also publishes letters from readers and guest essays.
“It has been an unexpected honor to have been asked to supervise the editorial pages,” Mr. Troy said, “and I am committed to continuing this newspaper’s tradition of offering thought-provoking commentary, both locally and from syndicated columnists.”
