The Lucas County auditor presented a check to SeaGate Food Bank on Wednesday, based on a settlement secured by the Office of the Ohio Attorney General against Family Dollar.
Auditor Katie Moline presented the food bank with $7,339.08, the result of a lawsuit filed by the attorney general’s office against Dollar General and Family Dollar for charging customers one price on the shelf and a higher one at the counter.
Settlements in each lawsuit were used to donate money to auditor-selected food pantries, with county distributions based on the total settlement amount and the number of stores located in the county, the Lucas County Auditor’s Office said in a news release.
“Seagate Food Bank of Northwest Ohio fights against hunger in Lucas County daily,” Ms. Moline said. “I am honored to direct these funds to SeaGate Food Bank, as a result of the work performed by the Auditor’s office to ensure fair and honest pricing in our community.”
