National Museum of the Great Lakes to host golf event on Schoonmaker ship

The National Museum of the Great Lakes will again host its Freighter Golf event on the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship from Friday through July 21.

The competition will feature custom-built putting greens and a hole-in-one challenge that will give golfers a chance to win a free museum membership.

“Golf is an integral part of Toledo's sporting culture, and we wanted to blend that love for the game with the rich history we showcase here at the museum,” said Kate Fineske, the museum’s executive director. “Freighter Golf on the Schoonmaker is a fun way for people to test their putting skills while exploring a piece of maritime history.”
