Toledo ranks in the middle of the nation’s most challenging cities for those with allergies, according to a new report from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America.
The foundation ranked the nation’s 100 most populated metropolitan areas based on scores for tree, grass, and weed pollen; use of over-the-counter allergy medications; and the number of allergy specialists in the city.
“The burden of seasonal allergies falls heavily on the southern and eastern parts of the country,” the report said. The Top 5 “worse than average” cities were Wichita, Kan., at No. 1, followed by New Orleans; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Tulsa, Okla.; and Memphis.
No Ohio cities were in the Top 20 of worst allergy capitals, but Columbus and Toledo ranked as “average” at No. 48 and 49 respectively. Cleveland (96) and Akron (98) were characterized as “better than average.”
