Toledo Community Foundation rebrands as something 'greater'

Employees of the Toledo Community Foundation need new business cards, but their mission remains the same.

The non-profit focused on philanthropy announced Tuesday it will now be known as the Greater Toledo Community Foundation. The new brand identity also comes with a new tagline: “Strength in giving. Hope in action.”

The Greater Toledo Community Foundation also unveiled an updated logo and new website. The organization worked with Thread Marketing Group on the re-branding effort.

“The foundation has continued to work and solve problems in our community, including low birth weight issues with our babies to pre-K,” president Keith Burwell said. “Today we’re excited to let you know we’re moving forward with a new identity. It’s important to know this name reflects us moving forward ... to build a better community, find bold solutions, and inspire philanthropy.”

The foundation has given more than $13 million in gifts this year.

Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz said it’s important for the city to embrace the surrounding area and not isolate itself.

“We have to think of ourselves as part of something larger,” he said. “A name that reflects our region feels right. It’s more accurate than something that’s more localized. This regional approach is something we’ve always wanted in northwest Ohio but has been elusive. I think that’s changing.”

The Greater Toledo Community Foundation started in 1973. It operates more than 875 funds with assets of about $300 million.

The foundation provides philanthropic services to individuals, families, businesses, and corporations to meet their charitable giving needs.
