National Museum of the Great Lakes offers new lecture series

A tragedy that led to Second Lt. Frank Moody’s death on a 1944 training mission over Lake Huron will be the topic of a lecture to kick off the National Museum of the Great Lakes’ lecture series later this month.

"Last Flight of a Tuskegee Airman," is planned for 7 p.m. Sept. 28 at the museum, 1701 Front St., or online via Zoom, the museum announced. It will be presented by Wayne Lusardi, state maritime archaeologist with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

Then on Oct. 26, the museum will feature Author Wendy Kolie who will talk about a deadly Lake Erie undercurrent in “Lake Erie Murder and Mayhem,” to be followed  on Nov. 9 by the series’ final lecture, about a floating U.S. Post Office in “Mail By the Pail: The History of the J.W. Westcott Co.”

All lectures will be hybrid events allowing guests to participate in-person or online via Zoom. Event registration is free but required for all lectures.

Frank Moody's P-39Q Aircobra, discovered Apr. 11, 2014 in Lake Huron.
