UT's Ritter Planetarium closing until March for digital upgrade

The University of Toledo’s Ritter Planetarium will be closed from Christmas Eve until sometime in March for new digital technology to be installed.

The new projection system is called Digistar 7, which UT said will provide sharper images with higher resolution and sharper colors. It also will allow livestreamed events from around the world to be shown on the planetarium’s 40-foot ceiling.

The $320,000 system, made possible by an anonymous donor, is the first major upgrade since the current system was installed in 2011, UT said.
