Dense fog in the Toledo region is prompting a special weather statement on Monday afternoon.
The dense fog developed over Lake Erie, and patchy dense fog is along the immediate lakeshore, the National Weather Service said in a statement.
"Visibilities are variable in this area and may drop to a quarter mile at times," the weather service said. "Motorists should be prepared for varying visibilities in short distances this afternoon through early this evening."
The statement, issued from Cleveland, includes Lucas, Ottawa, and Erie counties, including the cities of Toledo, Port Clinton, Oak Harbor, Genoa, and Sandusky.
"When driving through fog, slow down, use your low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you," the weather service said.
In a separate hazardous weather outlook statement, the weather service said that Monday night's lowest visibilities are expected near and west of I-75 and along the immediate lakeshore.
Patchy dense fog is possible through Tuesday in the same area, the weather service said.
