A large-scale readiness exercise is planned later this week at the Ohio Air National Guard’s base at Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport, the air guard announced Monday.
During the exercise scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, “those living and working near the base may see and hear increased activity, both on base and the areas immediately surrounding the installation,” the air guard’s 180th Fighter Wing said. “...Residents may also hear increased noise from loudspeakers, sirens, and loud booms as part of simulated training scenarios.”
While the base’s training flights usually occur during the daytime, F-16 fighter jets will take off and land at various times throughout the day during the drill.
Readiness training of this nature is required at a minimum of two exercises within any five-year period, the air guard said, and when “conducted in realistic environments under realistic circumstances, ensures our forces maintain the highest levels of proficiency and readiness for worldwide deployment.”
