A former patent attorney was sentenced last week to six years in federal prison after he previously pleaded guilty to having child pornography on his home computer.
Gary M. Sutter, 64, of Sylvania, previously pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Toledo to receipt and distribution of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
A count of possession of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct was dismissed.
On May 16, Judge Jeffrey Helmick sentenced Sutter to six years in prison, with five years of supervised release. He faced a maximum of 20 years in prison.
He must pay $3,000 in restitution.
Between Oct. 4, 2014, and July 31, 2015, Sutter logged onto an unspecified website that enabled him to view child pornography, according to federal prosecutors. Investigators linked the computer to Sutter’s home.
During a search of his home, authorities seized several electronic devices with more than 400 photos and nearly 100 videos displaying child pornography, officials said.
Sutter has a felony suspension on his attorney status, effective May 6, according to the Supreme Court of Ohio.
