A former Central Catholic High School assistant girls soccer coach charged with having sex with one of her players is facing additional charges after investigators found explicit photos on the victim’s cell phone, prosecutors said.
Kathryn Vose, 28, formerly of Toledo and currently of Seattle, was indicted Thursday by a Lucas County grand jury with an additional three counts of disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, all fifth-degree felonies. Ms. Vose ha been charged in March with three counts of sexual battery, all third-degree felonies; disseminating matter harmful to juveniles; and corrupting another with drugs, a fourth-degree felony.
She previously pleaded not guilty to the initial charges.
Toledo police recently investigated the victim’s phone and made a copy of essential data, according to assistant county prosecutor Michael Bahner. Additional images of Ms. Vose were found on the victim’s phone, leading to the new charges.
Between March, 2017, and October, 2018, prosecutors say Ms. Vose engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a high school student while Ms. Vose served as a substitute teacher and the student’s coach.
In addition to engaging in unlawful sex acts, nude photographs and romantic letters were sent to the girl and the two continued a long-distance relationship after the coach moved to Seattle, prosecutors believe.
In court records, defense attorney Jerome Phillips states that in May, 2018, Ms. Vose ended her position as substitute teacher and soccer coach at Central Catholic. The victim has since turned 18.
Prosecutors say the age of consent in Ohio is 16, but there is no consent with a person of authority, such as a teacher or coach.
Ms. Vose is scheduled to appear with Mr. Phillips before Judge Linda Jennings on Tuesday.
