A West Toledo man is facing a half-dozen criminal charges stemming from his arrest in relation to a shooting earlier this month.
Jaden C. Nagypaul, 19, of the 5300 block of Breezeway Drive, appeared Wednesday morning in Toledo Municipal Court following his arrest Tuesday evening. Court records show he is charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, in an Aug. 15 shooting in the 600 block of Thayer Street in South Toledo. He is accused of firing four shots at Raven Robinson, 18, with one round striking the victim in the arm.
Additional court records say Nagypaul attempted to flee from arresting officers, and removed a loaded firearm from his waistband before falling and dropping it. Police determined the gun had been reported stolen in 2014.
Nagypaul is also charged with single counts of having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony; carrying a concealed weapon and receiving stolen property, both third-degree felonies; and misdemeanor charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest. Judge Allen McConnell set total bond at $275,000 and scheduled a hearing for Sept. 2.
On Aug. 11, just a few days before the shooting, Nagypaul was sentenced in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to three years of community control after he submitted an Alford plea — not admitting guilt — to a second-degree felony charge of robbery. He is scheduled to appear in that court Tuesday for a community control violation hearing.
