The suspect in a recent triple homicide in Toledo’s Old West End will be held in jail on a $1.5 million bond.
D’Angelo M. Porter, 24, appeared Monday in Toledo Municipal Court on three counts of murder in the Nov. 5 incident at Parqwood Apartments that left Tyrone Ursey, Jr., 23, Gary Witcher, 39, and Deanna Himon, 41, dead at the scene. Two others, 21-year-old Twainesha Jones and 24-year-old Kar’Leah Davis, were also shot.
Judge Michelle Wagner set bond at $500,000 for each murder charge and scheduled a hearing Tuesday related to Mr. Porter retaining an attorney.
Also charged in the case is Keylona Witcher, 21, who lives in the apartment building. She was indicted Nov. 16 with four counts of felonious assault, all second-degree felonies, for allegedly hitting another vehicle multiple times and injuring a 14-year-old in a hit-skip crash that led to the shooting, according to Toledo police.
Ms. Witcher and Ms. Jones each have a child with Mr. Porter, police said. On Nov. 5, Ms. Witcher noticed that Ms. Jones was driving behind her in another vehicle and struck Ms. Jones’ vehicle multiple times, police reported. Ms. Jones’ car became disabled, and Ms. Jones and her 14-year-old sister exited the car.
Ms. Witcher then struck the teenage girl with her vehicle, causing an ankle injury, according to police. Officers were initially called at 5:02 p.m. for the crash at Parkwood Avenue and Bancroft Street.
In the midst of the dispute between Ms. Witcher and Ms. Jones, police said a number of other individuals arrived in the area. They included Mr. Witcher, Ms. Witcher’s father; Ms. Himon, Ms. Jones’ mother; Mr. Ursey, Ms. Jones’ cousin; and Ms. Davis and Nikeisha Johnson, both friends of Ms. Jones.
The altercation continued into Parqwood Apartments, where Mr. Porter entered the building through the front door, walked to the hallway where the group was, and began firing a weapon, police said. He then fled the scene. Police were called for the shooting there at 5:11 p.m.
Mr. Porter was arrested Nov. 10 in Detroit by the U.S. Marshal’s Service after the agency offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to his arrest. He had been held in the Wayne County jail until he was extradited Friday and booked into the Lucas County jail.
Ms. Witcher was initially charged Nov. 6 in the municipal court with one count of felonious assault, and was held on $100,000 bond. Ms. Witcher remains in the Lucas County jail and is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 1 in Lucas County Common Pleas Court before Judge Myron Duhart.
In a separate case, Mr. Porter was charged Oct. 25 in the municipal court with four misdemeanor counts of aggravated menacing and one count each of domestic violence and obstructing official business. He is accused of pointing a gun toward at least one person — a woman with whom he shares a child, court records state.
Judge Wagner set a personal recognizance bond on each of those six charges, and likewise scheduled a Tuesday hearing for retaining an attorney.
