Cases recently heard in Lucas County Common Pleas Court:

Michael Mitchell Jr., 24, of the 600 block of Hampton Avenue, had his bond modified after his attorney, Pete Rost, requested a hearing because the bond was too excessive for the amount of information for his client’s involvement in the July 7 shooting death of University of Toledo football player Jahneil Douglas, 22. Bond was initially set at $1 million in Toledo Municipal Court. Mr. Rost ensured that his client is not a flight risk, he has not taken and will not take any action to obstruct the judicial process; he is not a flight risk based on his connections to the community; he has no prior criminal history; and he was lawfully in possession of the weapon used in the incident. Prosecutors did not agree with the modification because Mr. Mitchell the defense failed to show that bail in this case was unreasonable. Mr. Mitchell could face up to life in prison if convicted, and he has previously played basketball in Europe — meaning he likely has outside ties, prosecutor said. Judge Joe McNamara reset bond at $250,000 with the added condition that he be placed on electronic monitoring if he were to post bond. He must also have no contact with the victim’s family. As of Tuesday, records do not show Mr. Mitchell posting bond. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Dec. 23.

John Davison, 38, and Vicki Davison, 33, of Virginia Beach, Va., each pleaded not guilty of carrying a concealed weapon, a fourth-degree felony, inducing panic, a second-degree felony, and falsification, a misdemeanor offense. Bond was set at $50,000 and a pretrial hearing is scheduled for Dec. 7. In September, Lake Township police responded to CSX Transportation railroad property north of Toledo Executive Airport between Lemoyne and Ayers roads, near Lake High School. Mr. Davison made implied threats to the airport, the high school, and area refineries by telling people the locations could blow up. Police obtained and executed a search warrant on the couple’s rental vehicle and found a trunk fully of heavy duty, hard plastic, and insulated cases. Police said the couple’s visit to the area seemed to be connected to President Donald Trump’s visit in the area.
