PORT CLINTON — An Oak Harbor man was indicted Thursday by an Ottawa County grand jury for allegedly causing a fatal head-on crash in December while driving under the influence, according to the indictment.
Danny E. Wamsley, 68, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, a second-degree felony, as well as three misdemeanor counts of operating a vehicle under the influence and a left-of-center violation.
Mr. Wamsley was arrested just before 2:45 p.m. Thursday by Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies. He was booked in the Ottawa County jail and he is expected to be arraigned Friday in the county courthouse.
Mr. Wamsley was driving northbound on State Rt. 53 on Dec. 7 near Mulcahy Road in Bay Township when his vehicle went left of center and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Adam Borror, 34, of Port Clinton.
The cars went off the opposite sides of the road, and both drivers had to be extricated from the wreckage. Mr. Wamsley was taken to a hospital where he was in critical condition after the crash. Mr. Borror was flown to ProMedica Toledo Hospital, where he died.
Following the crash, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Fremont post initially said impairment did not appear to be a factor in the crash. Investigators later determined Mr. Wamsley’s blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit of .08 percent.
