The City of Toledo has filed a lawsuit against Toledo Spirits Company, LLC, to collect $27,478 in unpaid taxes and fees from 2020.
According to a complaint filed by the city, Toledo Spirits earned income in 2020 and has yet to pay taxes on it pursuant to the Toledo Municipal Code.
According to the complaint, the distillery owed just over $18,000 in net profit tax in 2020, with just over $3,700 in penalty and interest. With a 25 percent fee, that brought the total up to more than $27,000.
Toledo Spirits is a craft distillery located at 1301 North Summit Street in North Toledo. The company was founded in 2013, and the distillery downtown opened two years later.
The civil case was filed Monday, and a summons was issued to Toledo Spirits the following day. Lucas County Common Pleas Judge Linda Jennings has been assigned to the case.
Neither Toledo Spirits nor the city’s attorneys responded immediately to requests for comment.
