Youth pleads not guilty to 14-year-old's shooting death last year

A 17-year-old murder defendant pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges arising from the shooting death last summer of a 14-year-old boy.

Judge Lindsay Navarre continued bond at $1 million for Zammarion Candie, of the 4000 block of Heatherdowns Boulevard, who appeared for arraignment in Lucas County Common Pleas Court with defense lawyer Jeff Simpson. He faces alternative counts of murder and a felonious assault charge for the July 19 shooting of Adrian Johnson, 14, outside a home at Heatherdowns and Green Valley Drive. Young Johnson was shot twice in the torso.

The Candie youth’s case had been bound over from juvenile court in June. Prosecutors said Tuesday significant evidence discovery had already been provided while the case was still in juvenile court.
