Perrysburg forms levy panel

Perrysburg forms levy panel

Committee members to put up signs, send out letters

The campaign committee to promote Perrysburg Schools’ levy was organized Monday.

The 10-member Citizens for Perrysburg Schools will be led by co-chairmen Kerry Wellstein, whose children attend Perrysburg schools, and Dave Matolyak, of the district’s athletic booster club. Rachel Johnson, the district’s communications director, will be the group’s campaign manager.

The other committee members are Eric Benington, Glen Brandt, Tim Laird, Brett Queen, Carol Russell, Nancy Stough, and Starr Wlodarski. Committee members are volunteers, mainly district parents, district employees contributing time outside of work, and others who are active in the community.

The committee will place yard signs and minibillboards, organizing letters to the editor, performing outreach, and other duties.

“The board is here for you,” said Perrysburg Board of Education member Walt Edinger. “All you need to do is ask us.”

The committee will work to persuade voters to support the 2.94-mill levy that will generate $38.9 million, mostly to be used to build a school for fifth and sixth graders. It will also add an auxiliary gym to the high school, air conditioning and electrical at Perrysburg Junior High School, and safety and security entrances at the elementary schools.

The district also acknowledged donors that have raised more than $900,000 for a new locker room and field house for Steinecker Stadium at Perrysburg Junior High School. They are looking for $1.25 million to start building phase one of the facility, possibly by next year.
