Nathan Preston, principal of Winterfield Venture Academy in South Toledo, makes good on his promise to wear a tutu if the school family reached its goal of donating 17 pints of blood in a recently completed blood drive for the American Red Cross.
“If it’s for the kids, there’s no shame in it,” Mr. Preston said, and he added to the high jinks at the school’s year-end field day Monday with a can of spray string that he shot at the third graders.

This is the second year for the blood drive; next year, Mr. Preston plans to increase the goal, though he didn’t say what he plans to do if they reach it. Winterfield Venture Academy is a charter school for kindergartners through eighth graders owned by National Heritage Academies.
