Sylvania parents and community members have until Sunday to complete a Sylvania Schools survey about plans to redraw enrollment districts for the 2018-19 school year.
On Monday a redistricting task force of 25 teachers, parents, administrators, and residents will begin to analyze the survey’s results, tweak draft maps of proposed new enrollment boundaries, and discuss what is best for the area.
There are two options on the table, one that adjusts all seven elementary schools’ boundaries to even out enrollment, and another that splits the district between north and south and keeps children who start kindergarten together through high school. Redistricting is necessary, schools officials say, because of an enrollment uptick in the western portion of the district that serves about 7,500 students.
The task force plans to have a recommendation for the school board May 8, and board members hope to make a decision two weeks later.
