University of Toledo gets nearly $1 million for engineering program

The National Science Foundation awarded the University of Toledo $999,984 to fund a new program that will support low-income students pursing engineering degrees.

GEARSET — Greater Equity, Access, and Readiness for Success in Engineering and Technology — is for first-year students who did not meet the College of Engineering’s requirements and were admitted into the Department of Exploratory Studies.

The five-year grant will provide scholarships for low-income students, averaging $6,400 a year for up to seven semesters. The scholarships will be awarded once the students transfer into the College of Engineering.
