Retired Air Force Col. Mark F. Swentkofske has been appointed as the 12th president of St. John's Jesuit High School and Academy, the school's board of trustees announced Wednesday.
“Mark is one of the most-proud and grateful alums of St. John’s Jesuit," Board Chairman Jeff Savage said in a statement. "He is a highly relational leader whose enthusiasm attracts others to the mission at [St. John’s Jesuit]. His skills will allow him to be effective in his role as president with a specific focus on institutional advancement.”
The appointment is effective July 1.
Colonel Swentkofske, a 1984 graduate of St. John's, will succeed Michael J. Savona, who has served as president since 2017, and who will retire in June, the school said.
“It is the highest honor to be entrusted to lead my alma mater into the future," he said in a part of a statement from the school. "I am humbled to be chosen for and called to this special vocation."
"I am excited to return to Toledo — a vibrant city with exceptional people," he also said.
Colonel Swentkofske is returning to Toledo from Hawaii where he recently retired from Air Force service. He obtained a bachelor of science degree from the Air Force Academy in 1989 and a master’s degree from National Intelligence University in 1999.
