E.L. Bowsher High School was placed on lockdown for nearly two hours Friday after officials received a tip that a student brought a gun to school.
Patricia Mazur, a Toledo Public Schools spokesman, said the school was placed on Level 3 lockdown at 1:01 p.m. Friday after a teen informed administrators he thought he saw an unknown student with a gun in a bathroom.
During the lockdown, all students were kept in their classrooms and no one was allowed to enter or leave the building while district security and Toledo police investigated, Ms. Mazur said. No gun was found during a search and the lockdown was lifted at roughly 2:30 p.m., with students then dismissed from school on time, she said.
“A thorough search of the school was completed by officers from the district’s Department of Public Safety and Toledo police, and thankfully no weapon was found,” Ms. Mazur wrote. “The district’s number one priority is the safety and security of our students and staff members.
“We know that today’s lockdown may have caused anxiety for students, staff members and families — please reach out to the school directly if you or your student would like to talk with a counselor,” she added.
