A Perrysburg Board of Education member resigned Monday, district officials said, and her seat is now open for candidates to fill the unexpired term.
Lori Reffert resigned Monday because she is moving out of the district, Rachel Zickar, the district’s communications director, said Wednesday in a news release.
The resignation is effective April 1, Ms. Zickar said.
“Dr. Reffert has always provided thoughtful and honest perspectives, which grew out of her unique experiences as both an educator and a mother,” said board President Susan Rowland Miller. “We will miss her voice in our deliberations and decisions and thank her for her leadership.”
The board is accepting applications from people interested in serving out the remainder of Ms. Reffert’s term, which runs through Dec. 31.
Applicants must be at least 18, be registered to vote, reside within the school district boundaries, and meet all eligibility requirements outlined by state and local regulations.
The deadline to apply is April 2. The board has set aside April 7-8 for interviews, and the vacancy is expected to be filled by a vote at the school board’s April 21 meeting.
An application can be picked up at the board’s office, 140 E. Indiana Ave., or completed online.
Ms. Reffert served on the board’s policy and student/safety committees, according to its website. She has lived in Perrysburg for more than 20 years and worked for Toledo Public Schools for 26 years. She was elected to the Perrysburg board in November, 2021.
Superintendent Tom Hosler praised her service in the district’s statement.
“Dr. Lori Reffert has always maintained a passion to serve all students in our school district,” he said. “In her actions and approach as a board member, it was always clear that she wanted to provide a voice for all students, especially for those most vulnerable.”
