Maumee Bay State Park beach under bacteria advisory again

Maumee Bay State Park’s Lake Erie beach was placed under another bacteria advisory at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, the Ohio Department of Health said.

Swimmers and sunbathers should take note and avoid contact with that beach and water until the threat subsides. The Ottawa County Health Department issued the warning after routine sampling there.

No word yet on whether the park’s nearby inland beach is affected, as well.

High bacteria readings are common there and elsewhere after heavy rain.

Other beaches in northwest Ohio currently under bacteria warnings include the Bay View West, Orchard Beach, Linwood Beach, Darby Creek, Lake Front Park, Nokomis, and Main Street Beach areas of Erie County, according to the state health department’s BeachGuard.
