Maumee Bay State Park reopens part of boardwalk damaged in tornado

A portion of Maumee Bay State Park’s boardwalk has been reopened after it was damaged in a tornado last month.

The park said the portion of the boardwalk that links the Maumee Bay Lodge to the Trautman Nature Center has been fixed and reopened, the park announced. It was damaged by a June 15 tornado — one of several that formed around northwest Ohio — that tracked just north of the lodge and moved through the eastern part of the park.

The walkway is a popular destination for birders. Another short loop is still being repaired after the storm, while a longer loop that meanders east through a wetland bordering Lake Erie is undergoing scheduled renovations and is set to reopen next summer.
