Local nukes fared well in 2024, NRC says

Both of the Toledo-area nuclear plants impressed federal regulators with their 2024 performances.

Annual assessment letters issued last week by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Vistra’s Davis-Besse nuclear plant and DTE’s Fermi 2 nuclear plant scored well in their safety checks.

Davis-Besse is in Ottawa County. Fermi 2 is in Monroe County. Both are along the Lake Erie shoreline, roughly 30 miles from downtown Toledo.

Last month marked Vistra’s one-year anniversary as Davis-Besse’s owner. The Texas-based energy company acquired the plant and its nuclear assets from Energy Harbor for $3.4 billion.
