Toledo police say they will close the books on at least 10 robberies in Toledo — and one in Sylvania Township — following the arrests and arraignments of four more men who appeared in Toledo Municipal Court Friday.
The men, arrested late Thursday, are each charged in connection with a string of robberies. They are being held on $75,000 bonds.
And authorities are considering adding more charges for more robberies.
Kyle Day, 22; Bryant Espinoza, 22; Colton Webster, 18; and Steven Born, 21, were arrested in separate incidents Thursday.
Hasawn Showes, 23, and Dylan Henry, 25, were arrested Wednesday in connection with the same string of robberies.
The investigation began when Sylvania Township police Sgt. Bob Cowell noticed a pattern in various robberies.
He was comparing robberies to a Feb. 19 heist at a Shell gas station at 5473 Monroe St. in Sylvania Township, Toledo Police Sgt. Tim Noble said.
There is no known gang affiliation with the men, although "they appear to be a loosely knit group that were all discussing these things among themselves," Sergeant Noble said.
Handguns were used in all of the robberies, said Andre Cowell, a Toledo Police detective said.
Four guns were recovered during the arrests, he added.
When police arrived at 1820 Joffre St. about 4:30 p.m. Thursday to arrest Mr. Day, a marijuana growing operation worth about $40,000 was discovered, Sergeant Noble said. The men believed to have been growing the weed are not connected to the robberies.
Mr. Born was arrested outside of his home on Isha Laye Way and Mr. Webster was arrested at his uncle's home in Sylvania Township.
Details of Mr. Espinoza's arrest were not available.
"There were a lot of people working on this case," Sergeant Noble said. "... Sergeant Cowell started the ball rolling and we had our crime analysis unit analyzing crime patterns, the video unit, officers in the field were stopping people for interviews, and the special enforcement division were constantly doing patrols in the area.
"Because of that," Sergeant Noble said, "we were able to bring this case to a successful conclusion."
The men are accused in:
A Jan. 23 robbery at Little Caesar's, 3145 Lagrange St.
A Feb. 15 robbery of a Speedway gas station at 2502 West Alexis Rd.
A Feb. 18 robbery at Cottage Inn Pizza, 240 West Alexis Rd.
A Feb. 19 robbery of a Shell gas station at 5473 Monroe St., Sylvania Township.
A Feb. 24 robbery of a taxi driver.
A Feb. 27 robbery of Arby's at 611 East Manhattan Blvd.
A March 1 robbery at Cottage Inn Pizza, 3326 West Laskey Rd.
March 6 robberies of the Red Roof Inn at 3530 Executive Pkwy. and a Sunoco gas station and convenience store at 1540 Front St.
A March 7 robbery of a Subway restaurant at 20 East Alexis Rd.
Mr. Espinoza, Mr. Colton, Mr. Steven, and Mr. Day are to appear in Toledo Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Friday.
Mr. Showes and Mr. Henry are to appear at 9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday, respectively.
