Authorities today identified Dominique Davis as the man shot Thursday night in West Toledo during what police said appeared to be a burglary.
Mr. Davis, 23, of East Central Avenue in North Toledo, was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment, authorities said. Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said the man remains hospitalized today and is “in very serious condition.”
Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Jermain Drive about 7:05 p.m., initially in response to a report that the victim was lying in front of a residence. Officers arrived and found him lying on the ground, police said.
Sergeant Heffernan said witnesses told police several people broke into the residence and tried to rob those inside. A gunfight ensued, during which Mr. Davis was shot, the sergeant said.
The incident remains under investigation.
