Holland police are investigating a fire set early Wednesday by a 16-year-old that resulted in the evacuation of the Walmart on South McCord Road.
A girl in a blue shirt set fire to a rack of children’s clothes at the store, according to the police department’s Facebook page.
Holland police arrested the teen on charges of aggravated arson. She was booked in the Lucas County Juvenile Justice Center.
Police are still searching for three other unidentified people with the girl, Police Chief Robert Reed said. The four hid merchandise on themselves before fleeing in a silver vehicle, similar to a Dodge Avenger, according to the police department.
The blaze broke out shortly before 1 a.m., and the store at 1355 S. McCord Road was evacuated. About 25 employees and 40 customers were in the store at the time, Chief Reed said.
The blaze was contained, but smoke spread throughout the store, Chief Reed said. It was unknown how much damage was done to the contents or the structure.
Police cleared the scene shortly after 3 a.m.
Anyone with information is asked to call Holland police at 419-865-7105.
