Toledoan accused of smuggling drugs into jail via underwear

Authorities arrested an East Toledo man they said tried to smuggle drugs into the Lucas County jail using underwear.

Scott Browning, 55, of the 1500 block of White Street, is charged with illegal conveyance of drugs into a detention facility. A Toledo Municipal Court judge set bond Tuesday at $10,000.

Mr. Browning on Monday attempted to bring four pairs of underwear containing 13 packages of suspected drugs to an inmate, according to court records filed by sheriff's office detectives.

The packages were of white powder that appeared to be heroin, Sheriff John Tharp said. These items were sewn into the material, authorities said.
