The man accused of shooting and killing another man in the Old West End near the Toledo Museum of Art appeared in court Friday, where his bond was set at $1 million.
Jaquan Sturdevant, 21, was arrested Thursday after police located him in an apartment in the 1900 block of Scottwood Avenue. Mr. Sturdevant appeared Friday morning in Toledo Municipal Court and was charged with murder. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 1, and his bond was set at $1 million.
Mr. Sturdevant’s court appearance comes after police identified the shooting victim as Zachary Duprey, 26.
The shooting was reported at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of Monroe Street. Mr. Duprey was found behind the Toledo Museum of Art, according to the Toledo Fire Department.

Mr. Duprey suffered at least one gunshot wound and was transported to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center, where he later died. The death was ruled as a homicide caused by a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
The incident “had nothing to do with the museum whatsoever,” Toledo police Lt. Dan Gerken said. The incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers program at 419-255-1111.
A Maumee resident, Mr. Duprey leaves behind his parents, three sisters, and a girlfriend. In his younger years, he enjoyed assembling bicycles in a family garage and later built hot rods as a side job, according to a paid obituary submitted to The Blade by the Mason-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, 501 Conant St. Services will begin at 10 a.m. Monday in the mortuary followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church, 104 W. Broadway St., both in Maumee.
Attempts to reach relatives Friday were unsuccessful.
