On Nov. 22, 2018, Anthony Barnes was driving north on I-75 near Collingwood with his three young children. As a vehicle drove beside the family’s car, multiple shots were fired and 3-year-old Malachi Barnes was struck. The boy later died at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center.

On Dec. 6, 2018, Matthew Smith, 17, was taken into custody and charged with complicity to commit murder.
