NAPOLEON — A 33-year-old Napoleon man was arrested Friday after he allegedly entered a local Walmart store wearing a mask and carrying a backpack, authorities said.
Bryan Gonzalez was charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest, according to Napoleon police. He is being held at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, near Stryker, Ohio, pending appearance in Napoleon Municipal Court.
Area law enforcement agents responded to a report of a suspicious person about 9 a.m. at the Walmart store, 1815 Scott St., police said in a statement. Henry County Sheriff Michael Bodenbender was the first to make contact with the man, who still had a mask on and was carrying the backpack, according to police.
The man refused to follow Sheriff Bodenbender’s commands and then physically resisted the sheriff’s attempts to restrain him, police said. He was finally taken into custody by the sheriff and Napoleon police.
Mr. Gonzales was unarmed, according to police.
Napoleon, the seat of Henry County, is about 40 miles southwest of Toledo.
