The Lucas County Sheriff’s Drug Abuse Response Team has received a $231,232 federal grant to evaluate a three-year anti-addiction media campaign, while a $41,550 Toledo Community Foundation grant will be used to complete an independent study of the DART program itself.
“With the isolation and breakdown of support networks brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the DART program is more important than ever as a mechanism to bring hope, resources, and recovery to those struggling with addiction in Lucas County,” Sheriff Mike Navarre said in announcing the grant awards.
The Department of Justice grant will cover “a comprehensive campaign to educate the community on preventing addiction before it starts,” while the Toledo Community Foundation money “will help to ensure we are providing the best possible services and programs to the community in the most effective manner,” the sheriff said.
Separate units of the University of Toledo will be involved in both projects, and Josh Nagel Productions will work with DART on the media campaign’s design.
