SANDUSKY — A female standing in line to ride Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster was taken to a hospital after she was struck by a small metal object that became disengaged from a train on that ride, a park spokesman said Sunday evening.
“At this time, our focus is on the guest and her family,” Tony Clark, Cedar Point spokesman, said.
The female - whose name and age were not released - was injured about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Paramedics from Cedar Point’s EMS team and the Sandusky Fire Department responded immediately, and the guest was transported to the hospital for medical care, the park’s statement said.
The Top Thrill Dragster is the ride in question. It reaches 120 mph and is 17 seconds long.
“Riders are launched in the blink of an eye before sprinting straight up at a 90-degree incline,” according to Cedar Point’s website. “If you dare to open your eyes at the top you will see spectacular views only viewed by the bravest 420 feet in the air. But look quick, before you know it, you’re hurtling back to the ground in a 270-degree twist before crossing the finish line. We aren’t kidding when we say that this high-octane sprint to the checkered flag knows a thing or twenty about horsepower.”
Park officials did not have new information to report on Monday morning.
